Marti Noxon has had quite the busy year — she’s been working on writing the Tomb Raider reboot as well as working on developing two separate pilots for Lifetime and Bravo. Both pilots are going to shoot and the leads have been cast..
Lisa Edelstein will star in Noxon’s Bravo pilot, The Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce. Edelstein will play Vicki, author of a bestselling self-help book series. She’s been hiding her separation from her husband from her friends and fans and begins figuring out her life as a 40something single woman in Los Angeles. As she struggles with her new lifestyle, she relies on advice from her divorced friends more than her married friends and begins to learn new things about herself.
Noxon is penning the script, which is based on the book series by Vicki Iovine, who will be executive producing alongside Dawn Olmstead and Meryl Poster.
Over at Lifetime, Noxon’s other pilot in development, Unreal, just cast Shiri Appleby as the lead role. Unreal, is based on Sarah Gertrude Shapiro’s excellent short film from the AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women, Sequin Raze, which screened at SXSW. Appleby will play a reality television staff member of a competition dating show ala The Bachelor. Her main job is to manipulate the contestants and their emotions to get the dramatic and humiliating footage that the producers want.
Noxon co-wrote the pilot with Shapiro.
As of now, there’s no word on when either project will begin filming.
