Lisa Taddeo’s Novel “Animal” Acquired by MGM and Plan B, Taddeo to Adapt

Taddeo

The film rights to the debut novel “Animal” from No.1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Taddeo have been acquired by MGM and Plan B Entertainment, with the latter to produce as part of their overall deal. The adaptation will also mark Taddeo’s feature writing debut. Deadline broke the news.

The novel — published earlier this summer — follows Joan, who has fled New York City for Los Angeles in the wake of gruesome tragedy, and plots revenge against a woman from her haunted past. Said Taddeo of the book’s key theme: “We call women crazy when they are angry, and we don’t have enough art that reflects how basal and vibrant and important female rage can be. I’m thrilled and grateful to bring ‘Animal’ to life with two iconic film partners.”

Formerly a journalist for 20 years, Taddeo has also twice been awarded the Pushcart Prize for her short stories, “42” and “Suburban Weekend.”

Her 2019 non-fiction book “Three Women” catapulted her onto the top spot of the New York Times bestseller list with its unflinching portrayals of three women’s sexual desires and traumas — she spent eight years traveling the country to help her flesh their stories out. It too is being adapted, as a series for Showtime which Taddeo will be writing and exec producing, and with DeWanda Wise and Shailene Woodley set to star. No word yet on casting for “Animal.”
