“Little Women” and “Frozen 2” Among Nominees for Producers Guild of America Awards

Nominations for the 2020 Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards are in. The PGA Awards’ Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures category is regarded as a strong indication of which films will land Best Picture nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards. As Variety details, “About three-quarters of the PGA’s Zanuck nominees wind up as Oscar best picture nominees.” Ten films are competing for the PGA ceremony’s top prize and just one is directed by a woman: Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women.” Amy Pascal produced the pic.

An adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved 1868 novel of the same name, “Little Women” follows the March sisters as they battle societal expectations and experience loss and love on their journey to womanhood. Gerwig recently scored a WGA nomination for penning the critically acclaimed coming-of-age story, which has taken in over $80 million worldwide since its December 25 release.

The Award for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures includes two women-directed or co-directed titles: “Abominable” and “Frozen 2.” The former, helmed by Jill Culton, tells the story of three teens that help a Yeti return to his family. The latter is directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and sees sisters Elsa and Anna embarking on a journey north to learn more about the origin of Elsa’s powers. Suzanne Buirgy produced “Abominable” and Peter Del Vecho produced “Frozen 2.”

Winners in these categories will be announced at the PGA awards ceremony January 18 in Hollywood. Head over to Variety to check out more nominees, which include “Fleabag,” “Unbelievable,” and “When They See Us.”
