Disney has another live-action feature in the works, this one focusing on Snow White’s sister. The studio is set to tell the story of Rose Red, a character that appeared in Grimms’ fairy tales. In the Grimms’ tales, Rose and Snow White are not connected.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Rose Red” is a “revisionist take that transposes [the eponymous character] into the ‘Snow White’ tale, making her a key player in the later part of the classic story. When Snow White takes a bite from the iconic poison apple and falls into her Sleeping Death, her estranged sister, Rose Red, must undertake a dangerous quest with Grumpy and the other dwarves to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life.”
“Rose Red” is said to feel like a “companion piece” to the beloved 1937 animated classic.
The movie sounds like a welcome addition to the recent slate of live-action women-centric Disney re-imaginings including 2014’s “Maleficent,” last year’s “Cinderella” and the upcoming “Beauty and the Beast” starring “Harry Potter” alum Emma Watson.
