Few industries have been as utterly transformed in the past decade like those of journalism and the media.
Former CSI showrunner Carol Mendelsohn is spinning that anxiety about the changing job marketplace into (hopefully) ratings gold with a new, as-yet-untitled show about “a disgraced journalist who is forced to go back to work for his former intern, who has since invented a BuzzFeed/PopSugar-type news site,” according to THR.
Liz Heldens (Deception, Camp) will write the hour-long ABC dramedy.
Interestingly, the series’ dynamic is rather similar to the Nancy Meyers’ The Intern, in which an older man goes to work for a younger woman at a fashion blogging site. (Robert De Niro and Reese Witherspoon were once attached to the film, though that no longer seems to be the case.)
Shows about journalism haven’t done very well lately (HBO’s The Newsroom will debut its third and final season in January 2015), but perhaps Mendelsohn’s show will buck the trend.
