Lysa Heslov is following up “Served Like a Girl,” her 2017 portrait of American women transitioning from active duty to civilian life after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, with a true crime docuseries. She’s directing and exec producing “Brother from Another,” a look inside the 2015 murder of a Florida doctor that’s currently in development at Epix. Deadline broke the news.
The project “recounts the horrific events of 2015 that led to the brutal murder of 46-year-old Dr. Teresa Sievers, when she returned home after a family trip. Sievers’ husband Mark, his best friend Curtis Wayne Wright and Jimmy ‘The Hammer’ Rogers, co-conspirators, would later be charged with her murder,” the source details.
“’Brother from Another’ is one of those stranger-than-fiction stories that would be unbelievable if it weren’t true; it’s a gripping tale that makes for a great addition to Epix’s acclaimed docuseries slate,” said Michael Wright, President, Epix. “We look forward to working with Lysa and team on developing this series.”
Heslov added, “The decision to take the project to Epix was easy; their content is consistently compelling and original, just like this twisted true crime saga.”
“Served Like a Girl,” Heslov’s directorial debut, premiered at SXSW Film Festival and took home the Jury Award for Best Documentary at the Bentonville Film Festival.
“Don’t be afraid of using your voice and get out of your own way when you need help,” Heslov urged when we asked what advice she’d give other women directors.
