Maïwenn’s Cesar-Nominated ‘My King’ Lands U.S. Distribution Deal

Maïwenn’s highly acclaimed drama “My King” (Mon roi) — currently up for eight Cesar Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress for Emmanuelle Bercot and Best Actor for Vincent Cassel — has found stateside distribution.

Film Movement has acquired Maïwenn’s fourth feature, which centers on a woman (Bercot) who, after a skiing accident, ruminates on the tumultuous relationship she had with a charismatic but supremely narcissistic lothario (Cassel). While she recovers at a rehabilitation center, she searches her emotional pain and attempts to figure out why she was so attracted to her questionable ex-lover.

In addition to the Cesar nod, Bercot won the Best Actress prize at Cannes this year (sharing the honor with Rooney Mara for “Carol”).

“My King” will have its U.S. premiere on March 9 and 10 at NYC’s “Rendez-vous with French Cinema” and enjoy a theatrical release later in the year.
