As Arya Stark, Maisie Williams spent a lot of time hunting down those who made the mistake of wronging her and her family. Now she’s the one being hunted, though she’s not without a few tricks up her sleeve. The “Game of Thrones” alumna has been cast as the lead in Sky Original comedy “Two Weeks to Live.” Deadline confirmed the news.
A six-part UK series, “Two Weeks to Live” tells the story of Kim (Williams), a misfit who lives “a secluded country life. When an unlikely prank goes wrong, she finds herself on the run from a murderous gangster and the police with a massive bag of stolen cash,” the source summarizes. “With the survival techniques she has picked up from her upbringing, however, she might just get through.”
Gaby Hull (“Cheat”) penned the project, which will air on Sky One and streaming service NOW TV in the UK and Ireland next year.
“Looking forward to getting into something new, I think ‘Two Weeks To Live’ has really great potential and I want to make something incredible with this wonderful team!” Williams said.
The actress has previously spoken out about sexism in the industry. “There are a lot of roles that come in that are ‘the girlfriend’ or ‘the hot piece’ in a movie or TV series,” she explained. “That’s something I’ve seen first-hand and read all the time.” Williams described the dramatically different types of character synopses for men and women: “It will say ‘Derek: intelligent, good with kids, funny, really good at this’ and then it will say ‘Sandra: hot in a sort of cute way’ — and that’s all you get. That’s the way your character is described, so going into an audition you are channeling ‘hot,’ which isn’t like a person, that’s not who a person is.”
“The Falling” and “Doctor Who” are among Williams’ previous credits. She stars in “X-Men” pic “The New Mutants,” set to bow in spring 2020.
