Margaret Nagle is shifting her focus from one toxic world to another. Hot off the heels of the announcement of “Alpha Girls,” the project about women in Silicon Valley she’s writing for TriStar TV, there’s word that Nagle will showrun Season 1 of anthology “Gangster Capitalism.” Based on the Cadence13 podcast of the same name, “Gangster Capitalism’s” first installment will take on the college admissions scandal, aka Operation Varsity Blues. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
The source confirms Nagle is already working on the first script. Cadence13 and Management 360 are producing, and the project will be shopped to premium cablers and streamers.
Operation Varsity Blues, which has been making headlines since the spring, saw dozens of parents, coaches, and administrators charged following an investigation into parents dropping millions to get their children admitted into prestigious universities. Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin are among the scandal’s best-known defendants. Huffman recently pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, and was sentenced to 14 days in prison. Another parent pleaded guilty to the same charges and received a four-month sentence.
Lifetime will premiere a TV movie about Operation Varsity Blues, aptly named “College Admissions Scandal,” on October 12. NBC and Annapurna TV are also working on television projects about the scandal.
Nagle won WGA Awards for writing FDR TV biopic “Warm Springs” and for her work on “Boardwalk Empire.” She created and exec produced comedic drama “Red Band Society,” which ran for one season on Fox. Next, she’s attached to write a Clementine Churchill biopic for Maven Pictures.
