Margaret Nagle has signed on to pen a series based on “Bonfire of the Vanities,” Tom Wolfe’s bestselling 1987 novel. Along with writing the project, “The Good Lie” screenwriter will serve as an executive producer, Variety reports.

The drama is a collaboration between Chuck Lorre, Amazon, and Warner Bros. TV. Lorre has created a number of hit sitcoms, including “Grace Under Fire,” “Cybill,” “The Big Bang Theory,” and “Mom.”

“Currently, the project is being conceived as a single run of eight episodes for Amazon Prime Video,” writes Variety.

“Bonfire of the Vanities” is set in 1980s New York City, and tackles racism, politics, and social class through the stories of its three main characters: a bond trader, a district attorney, and a journalist.

Nagle is a two-time Emmy nominee and two-time WGA award winner. Her TV credits include “Red Band Society,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and the 2005 TV movie “Warm Springs,” starring Kenneth Branagh and Cynthia Nixon.
