The Women in the Arts & Media Coalition has named the honorees of its 2019 Collaboration Awards. Set to be held March 30 — Support Women Artists Now Day — at New York City’s SVA Theater, the Collaboration Awards celebrate women “who successfully collaborate to create new and influential work.”Winners include “Egg,” Marianna Palka’s feature comedy about modern motherhood, Deborah Yarchun’s play “Preservation,” and SVA students/JuJu Films co-founders Shelby Hougui and Julia De Santis’ documentary “Bread Machine.”
Palka, star and producer Alysia Reiner, screenwriter Risa Mickenberg, and co-producers Michele Ganeless and David Alan Basche will accept the Acclaimed Collaboration Award for “Egg.” The Tribeca 2018 title sees two old friends and rivals (Christina Hendricks and Reiner) facing off over the best path to pregnancy and parenthood during an ill-fated dinner party.
“Preservation,” a play about a long-kept family secret and its connection to the fate of a local library, will receive the Biennial Collaboration Award. Playwright Yarchun and director Jess Chayes will be presented with the prize.
Director Hougui and cinematographer De Santis have been named the recipients of the inaugural Student Collaboration Award for “Bread Machine.” A testament to “the power of childhood memory, friendship, and communication,” the doc chronicles the bond between a young woman, her uncle, and his two dogs.
The Collaboration Awards’ Honored Finalists are Melissa Bell and Tannis Kowalchuk’s “Courage,” Katherine Carter and Jacqueline Goldfinger’s “Click,” and Vanessa Stalling and Brenda Barrie’s “United Flight 232.” Ophira Eisenberg and Maggie Cino’s “Scars” and Charissa Bertels and Ayumi Okada’s “The Uncivil Ones” received Special Mentions.
