Marie Curie-Inspired Projects About Young Female Scientists in the Works

MIT Press and Einhorn’s Epic Productions (EEP) are teaming up to inspire future Marie Curies. Deadline reports a YA graphic novel titled “The Curie Society,” about an international secret society of young women scientists, is in the works. The title is in reference to Curie, the pioneering, Nobel-winning physicist and radium researcher. Music industry manager Scooter Braun’s SB Projects will also be developing the book as a TV series with EEP.

Created by EEP CEO Heather Einhorn and chief creative officer Adam Staffaroni, “The Curie Society” will be written by Blue Delliquanti (“O Human Star”) and edited by Joan Hilty (“Birds of Prey,” “Batman”).

MIT Press and EEP are also partnering with science-media company Massive to launch a “Curie Society” online hub for fans, students, scientists, and educators.

“The MIT Press has a long and rich history of publishing impactful books by and about women in science, technology, and mathematics,” said press director Amy Brand. “With this innovative partnership and concept, we are excited to extend that impact to a younger generation and broader population of readers.”

“We created ‘The Curie Society’ to be a place where smart, heroic, young women can shine,” Einhorn explained. “It’s incredible to be working with forward-thinking and innovative partners like the MIT Press, Massive, and SB Projects.”

A romantic biopic about Curie and her husband is currently in post-production. “Radioactive” stars Rosamund Pike and is directed by Marjane Satrapi (“Persepolis”). The film is, fittingly, an adaptation of another graphic novel, Lauren Redniss’ “Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout.”
