Maris Curran’s ‘Five Nights in Maine’ Starring Dianne Wiest Gets a Distribution Deal

Worldwide distribution rights for writer-director Maris Curran’s “Five Nights in Maine” have been acquired by FilmRise.

The drama stars “Selma” breakout David Oyelowo as a young widower mourning the loss of his wife. He reconnects with his estranged mother-in-law, played by Diane Wiest, in the hopes of finding answers about her late daughter.

“I gravitate to stories that examine the joys and trauma of everyday life — particularly emotional stories that form the fabric of our lives, but might be rarely discussed,” Curran told Women and Hollywood. “For ‘Five Nights in Maine,’ I was interested in the ways that loss can actually bind people together rather than isolate them.”

The film premiered at TIFF last year.

FilmRise will release the feature theatrically in New York, Los Angeles and other select cities late this summer. Expect a day-and-date release on digital and VOD platforms.

“We are honored to bring this gripping, heartfelt film about grief and compassion to theaters and homes in 2016,” said FilmRise CEO Danny Fisher. “We are confident the film’s human story and incredible performances from all-star actors will draw audiences in, as it did us.”

Curran added, “The film explores universal themes of lost love, connection and empathy. Having shared the film to enthusiastic festival audiences, I am elated that FilmRise will be releasing the film theatrically for a wider audience to discover ‘Five Nights in Maine.’”
