Marti Noxon Developing Gillian Flynn Novel into TV Series

Mad Men and Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Marti Noxon has signed on to adapt Gillian Flynn’s debut novel, Sharp Objects, into a TV series.

Sharp Objects centers on a young newspaper reporter who returns to her Southern hometown to look into a pattern of child murders and attempts to cope living with her abusive mother.

Since Gone Girl became a publishing phenom, Flynn’s two previous mysteries became hot properties. Charlize Theron produced and stars in an film adaptation of Flynn’s second novel, Dark Places, about a woman revisiting a childhood massacre in which her brother seemed to have killed everyone in their family except her. (No release date on that yet.)

The very busy Noxon already has two greenlit series in the works: Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce (Bravo), starring Janeane Garofalo and Lisa Edelstein and guest-starring Laverne Cox, and Un-Real (Lifetime), a parody of romance-centric reality-show competitions like The Bachelor.
