Marvel Releases New X-Men Comic Series with All Women Cast

nullHere’s some cool news, Marvel has just released a new X-Men series…with an all female cast led by Storm (played by Halle Berry in the films). The first comic in the new series, X-Men #1, focuses on previous female heroines in the X-Men universe working together to stop evil.

Some had concerns that the comic could potentially read differently just because all the characters are women. Series writer Brian Wood made sure to quell those fears.

Some people expect it to be full of things like shopping and conversations about hair. I can’t wait for the book to come out and for readers to see it’s not some gimmicky joke book where they talk about their periods.

Editor of the new series, Jeanine Schaefer has long wanted a series like this and knows she’s not the only one.

I’ve long said to get women to read your comic, you don’t need to write a story that women want to read. You just need to not have a sign on it that says, ‘No women allowed.’

Our friends over at Bitch magazine have read the new comic and Crystal Erickson says it reads like any other great Marvel comic and left her wanting more. We are certainly going to be checking it out.

Make sure to read Erickson’s fantastic interview with Schaefer (linked below) about their favorite characters and why the series is called X-Men instead of X-Women.
