The critically lauded A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night didn’t just garner writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour a Breakthrough Director Award at the Gotham Independent Film Awards, but a powerful advocate as well.
Megan Ellison will produce Amirpour’s follow-up, The Bad Batch, alongside Vice Films. The Bad Batch is being described as a “dystopian love story set in a Texas wasteland.” Plot details are otherwise scarce, but Ellison’s enthusiasm for the project is not. Calling Amirpour “an epic talent,” the superstar producer recently tweeted that The Bad Batch “is essential to [her] soul.”
The Bad Batch will be the third woman-directed movie produced by Ellison (after Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty and Katherine Brooks’ Waking Madison) since she began her Hollywood career in 2010.
Producer Eddy Moretti commented of the project, “Ana Lily is a force of cinematic nature. She inhabits that special place where the pop sensibility of the movies meets the deep sensuality of film art. It’s a tricky thing to pull off — creating this kind of wildly entertaining visionary cinema — but Ana Lily is powerful, so she can pull it off.”
