A couple of things to talk about on the Melissa McCarthy front.
First- She ain’t doing a Bridesmaids sequel without Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo. Ms. McCarthy was clearly pissed when word surfaced about making a film without Wiig in the film and Wiig and Mumolo writing.
Not so fast. Here’s what she said at the Palm Springs Film Festival:
This is not true at all. That was a comment that someone made without having the authority to make it. It’s was just an idea — and it got out there before any decisions have been made.
The other news is that Tammy, the film she co-wrote and will executive producer with her husband Ben Falcone now has a director — Beth McCarthy (no relation) McCarthy is a well known TV director. She spent many years at SNL. She has also directed episodes of Modern Family, Up All Night and 30 Rock.
The news here is that this will be her first feature film. So I think that her gig would definetely qualify as being a part of “the Bridesmaids Effect.” Glad they are putting a woman in charge on this film.
Here’s the description of the film:
The project centers on a woman who is laid off from her job at Hardee’s, discovers her husband is having an affair, and decides to go on a road trip with her alcoholic, foul-mouthed, diabetic grandmother.
Wonder who is going to play grandma. Helen Mirren could be quite funny and raunchy.
