The very funny Melissa McCarthy will be receiving CinemaCon’s 2013 Female Star of the Year award. Previous winners have included Jennifer Garner, Cameron Diaz, Katherine Heigl, Anne Hathaway and Rachel McAdams.
Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon, feels that McCarthy more than deserves the honor.
With an incredible comedic timing that has had audiences around the world falling out of their seats laughing, Melissa McCarthy has proved to be the new queen of comedy. We could not be more thrilled to be able to honor her as this year’s ‘CinemaCon Female Star of the Year.’
McCarthy next stars alongside Sandra Bullock in the Katie Dippold penned The Heat, hitting theaters in June. The film’s director, Paul Feig (also director of Bridesmaids) has nothing but lovely things to say about McCarthy.
I have now had the honor to direct Ms. McCarthy in two films and am hoping to direct every frame of film she appears in from now until the sun swells and consumes the Earth. I have also officially filed adoption papers to make Ms. McCarthy my daughter. That’s how wonderful she is. She also smells like very expensive flowers.
2013 has just started and already McCarthy is dominating it. And let’s not lie, we are so glad that a woman who is not skinny is getting major recognition.
CinemaCon kicks off on April 15 in Las Vegas. McCarthy will receive her award on April 18 during the closing night gala.
