Melissa McCarthy to Co-Star with Tiffany Haddish in Andrea Berloff’s “The Kitchen”

McCarthy in “Life of the Party”

Two of Hollywood’s funniest women are teaming up for a project. Melissa McCarthy has joined the cast of mob drama “The Kitchen,” Variety reports. Tiffany Haddish is also starring in the pic, which marks “Straight Outta Compton” writer Andrea Berloff’s directorial debut. She also penned the script.

Based on the comic book series of the same name, “The Kitchen” is set in 1970s Hell’s Kitchen and tells the story of what happens after a group of Irish mobsters are sentenced to jail time: Their wives step up and take over the business, becoming powerful gangsters in their own right.

No word on when to expect the New Line Cinema and DC Entertainment title.

McCarthy and Haddish both broke out thanks to their scene-stealing supporting roles in critically acclaimed comedies that did stellar numbers at the box office: “Bridesmaids” and “Girl’s Trip,” respectively. McCarthy received an Oscar nod for her performance, and Haddish took home a New York Film Critics Circle Award for hers.

A trailer just dropped for McCarthy’s latest project, “Life of the Party.” Set to bow May 11, the comedy sees her playing a stay-at-home mom who decides it’s time to get her degree — and chooses to study at the same school her daughter. She co-wrote the script for the film with its director, her frequent collaborator and husband Ben Falcone. Up next for Haddish is upcoming TBS series “The Last O.G.” a comedy about an ex-felon starring Tracy Morgan (“30 Rock”) that’s set to premiere April 3.
