Non-blonde, non-spritely Melissa McCarthy has signed on to play Tinker Bell in an upcoming live-action comedy-adventure.
At this point, we can only guess what kind of fairy McCarthy, who will star in the untitled project, will be. But it’s heartening that Fox is willing to reinterpret the iconic character so radically.
And it’s encouraging that Nicholas Stoller has been tapped as the screenwriter, as he’s shown a wonderful fairness toward female characters in The Five-Year Engagement and Neighbors.
McCarthy will produce the film. She’s still on Mike & Molly and will next appear in theaters in the Paul Feig comedy Spy, to be released next summer.
