As we anxiously countdown the days until The Heat is released on June 28th, we are always excited to hear any news about the lovely Melissa McCarthy. As we had previously reported, McCarthy was making her directorial debut with Tammy, a film that she co-wrote alongside her writing partner/husband Ben Falcone, who will be co-directing as well.
New Line clearly has confidence in both McCarthy and the film since they have set a July 2, 2014 release date, placing the film on one of the most important film weekends of the year. It will go head to head with the Jason Segel/Cameron Diaz comedy, Sex Tape.
In the film, McCarthy stars as a woman who has been laid off from her fast-food job, discovers her husband’s affair and decides to go on a road trip with her alcoholic, diabetic grandmother. Kathy Bates is attached to play the grandmother’s lesbian friend, who bails the pair out on several occasions. Susan Sarandon is also in final talks to join.
