Meryl Streep has just booked two new roles in the upcoming adaptations of The Giver and The Good House.
Streep is in talks to portray the Chief Elder in The Giver. Based on Lois Lowry’s iconic YA novel, The Giver follows Jonas (Brendon Thwaites) who is assigned the role of receiving memories in his community. He is given special training from the giver (Jeff Bridges) who gives Jonas these memories but unlocks a rebellion in him. Streep’s role will be that of the authority figure in keeping a seemingly utopian society together.
She’s also booked The Good House which will reunite Streep with Robert DeNiro. Streep will play Hildy, a realtor and alcoholic who befriends a woman, Rebecca who becomes the talk of the town and complicates Hildy’s life. She strikes up a relationship with her old flame Frank (DeNiro) who tries to help Hildy uncomplicate everything. Michael Cunningham (The Hours) is set to adapt the Ann Leary novel for the screen.
