Mia Wasikowska is teaming up with another woman director. The “Alice in Wonderland” actress is set to follow up “Bergman Island,” Mia Hansen-Løve’s English-language debut, with “Club Zero,” a cult thriller from Jessica Hausner. Variety broke the news.
Set to begin shooting in the U.K. and Austria in July, “Club Zero” sees Wasikowska playing “an unusual school teacher” who “takes a job at an elite school and forms a strong bond with five students — a relationship that eventually takes a dangerous turn,” the source teases. Hausner has hinted that the film relates to eating disorders.
Hausner’s last pic, 2019’s “Little Joe,” a portrait of a plant breeder who brings a project from work home with terrifying results, premiered in Competition at Cannes. It marked the Austrian director’s English-language debut. Her other features include “Amour Fou” and “Lourdes.”
Wasikowska has previously collaborated with the likes of Mirrah Foulkes (“Judy and Punch”), Sophie Barthes (“Madame Bovary”), and Lisa Cholodenko (“The Kids Are All Right”).
