GLAAD is honoring “Pose” star Michaela Jaé Rodriguez for her “promotion of LGBTQ acceptance.” According to Deadline, Rodriguez is set to receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the GLAAD Media Awards. The ceremony, recognizing “fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues” in media, will be held in Los Angeles on April 2.

“Michaela Jaé Rodriguez is an undeniable talent who is changing the way audiences understand trans people while breaking down barriers for the trans community and LGBTQ people of color within the entertainment industry,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “Her performance as Blanca on ‘Pose’ was one of the most important and impactful roles in the history of LGBTQ representation on television, and she continues to spearhead the future of trans visibility and inclusion in entertainment through her talent on screen, in music, and as a passionate activist.”

The Kolzak Award is “named after a legendary casting director, who devoted his life to raising awareness in the entertainment industry about the discrimination faced by LGBTQ people as well as people living with HIV,” the source notes. Previous honorees include Laverne Cox, Wanda Sykes, Ruby Rose, and Melissa Etheridge.

The GLAAD Media Award nominees this year include “Eternals,” “Pose,” “Sex Education,” “Saved by the Bell,” “Batwoman,” and “Twenties.”

Earlier this year, Rodriguez became the first trans actress to win a Golden Globe. She received the best television actress in a drama series prize for her work in “Pose,” the FX show set the in ball culture world of the late ’80s and early ’90s. The groundbreaking series ended last year after three seasons.

You can see Rodriguez in Netflix’s Oscar-nominated musical “tick, tick…BOOM!” “Adam,” “Saturday Church,” and “Luke Cage” are among her other credits.
