Michelle Esrick Doc “Cracked Up” to Be Released by Abramorama

Esrick

Michelle Esrick’s “Cracked Up” is headed to theaters. Abramorama will release the Darrell Hammond documentary in NY on September 13 and in LA on September 20. A press release announced the news.

The DOC NYC pic effectively balances comedy and tragedy as it follows the comedian, actor, and SNL icon Hammond and examines the lasting effects of childhood trauma. Last fall, the doc screened for members of the Senate and House of Representatives. Following the showing, Esrick and Hammond spoke with the politicians and their staffs about addiction and its ties to trauma.

“I am grateful and excited to be launching ‘Cracked Up’ with Abramorama!” Esrick said. “I am deeply humbled by the impact the film has had since our DOC NYC festival premiere, from helping Congress pass a bill into law recognizing trauma as a root cause of addiction — to someone deciding not to commit suicide because they heard Darrell and myself talking about the effects of childhood trauma on a radio show. I can’t wait for this film to be available to everyone.”

In addition to “Cracked Up,” Esrick’s award-winning documentary “Saint Misbehavin’: The Wavy Gravy Movie” will be re-mastered and released on DVD this fall. She previously exec produced short doc “Ram Dass, Going Home.”
