Michelle Wolf Is Hosting This Year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Wolf in “Michelle Wolf: Nice Lady”

Michelle Wolf has landed another major gig. Just over a week ago Netflix announced that the “Daily Show with Trevor Noah” contributor and writer is getting her own show on the streamer, and now comes word that she’ll host this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“I’m delighted to announce ‘Nice Lady’ Michelle Wolf as our featured entertainer this year,” Margaret Talev, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, said in this morning’s news, as per Deadline. She continued, “Our dinner honors the First Amendment and strong, independent journalism. Her embrace of these values and her truth-to-power style make her a great friend to the WHCA. Her Pennsylvania roots, stints on Wall Street and in science, and self-made, feminist edge make her the right voice now.”

“Interesting the association bringing up ‘feminist edge,’ given that Wolf will be only the fifth woman to ever host the long-running dinner,” Deadline rightly points out. “Most recently Cecily Strong hosted, joining the ranks of Wanda Sykes, Elayne Boosler, and Paula Poundstone.”

Last year “Full Frontal’s” Samantha Bee launched the first annual “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.” The event raised over $200,000 for the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

In December Wolf made her HBO stand-up debut with “Michelle Wolf: Nice Lady.” She’s also written for and performed on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” Currently untitled, her upcoming weekly show on Netflix is said to differ from most late-night fare in that it will neither “preach” nor include “a political agenda … unless it’s funny.”

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner will take place April 28. President Donald Trump did not attend last year’s event, and it seems unlikely that he’ll turn up this year.
