Ava DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time” seems like it’s gearing up to being the coolest movie ever. As The Hollywood Reporter writes, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon may be joining DuVernay’s Disney adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s sci-fi novel.
According to THR, “Witherspoon will play Mrs. Whatsit, a former celestial being who looks like a grandmotherly hobo, and Kaling will play the literature-quoting Mrs. Who.” The pair would be joining Oprah Winfrey, who has already signed on to play Mrs. Which. As Women and Hollywood previously reported, DuVernay was planning a diverse cast for this adaptation.
“Frozen” co-writer and co-director Jennifer Lee is writing the script. The story follows a young girl who travels through time and space to find her missing scientist father.
Witherspoon recently wrapped the HBO miniseries “Big Little Lies,” which she executive produced with Nicole Kidman. She’ll also appear in “Home Again” for Hallie Meyers-Shyer, daughter of Nancy Meyers, this fall. Kaling, who stars in her own series “The Mindy Project,” is set to appear in the all-female reboot of “Ocean’s Eleven.”
