“Modern Persuasion” Lands at Samuel Goldwyn Films

"Modern Persuasion"

“Modern Persuasion” has secured U.S. distribution. A press release announced that Samuel Goldwyn films acquired rights to the modern-day rom-com based on Jane Austen’s “Persuasion.” A release is being planned for this December.

Written by Barbara Radecki (“Expecting”) and Jonathan Lisecki (“Gayby”), the pic tells the story of Wren Cosgrove (Alicia Witt) “a happily single and self-confessed workaholic who, after steadfastly rising to the top of the ladder in the NY corporate publicity world, finds herself coming home every night to her cat. When her firm is hired by Owen Jasper, ‘the man who got away,’ long-lost feelings are stirred, giving Wren a second chance at true love,” the source summarizes.

“Modern Persuasion” marks Alex Appel’s feature directorial debut. She helmed the film alongside Lisecki. Also an actress, Appel’s on-screen credits include “Lost Girl,” “Rookie Blue,” and “Little Mosque on the Prairie.”

“Orange Is the New Black,” “Nashville,” and “Justified” are among Witt’s credits.
