MoMA Film Benefit to Honor Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett will be saluted by the Museum of Modern Art as part of the institution’s annual film benefit.

In addition to the Oscar winner’s filmography, MoMA’s film department will celebrate its 80th anniversary this year.

The benefit will take place on November 17, when Blanchett will be busy gearing up for an awards run for her much praised performance in “Carol” (out November 20). The actress will also co-star in “Truth” (out October 16), another Oscar hopeful, about the news scandal that drove Dan Rather out of the anchor chair over George W. Bush’s disputed military service during the Vietnam War.

“We’re thrilled
to honor a woman who embodies the greatest traditions of screen acting,
while fiercely embracing innovation and risk,” said Rajendra Roy,
Chief Curator of Film at MoMA. “Cate Blanchett has
the kind of talent that inspires others to deliver their best work,
challenges the field to be more fully engaged with women artists and
audiences and propels cinema forward with intelligence and grace.”

The MoMA film benefit’s previous female award recipients include Tilda Swinton and Kathryn Bigelow.
