Nadine Labaki has been tapped to helm Netflix’s English-language remake of 2018 French dramedy “Les Invisibles.” Titled “The Invisibles,” the feature will mark the history-making “Capernaum” writer-director’s English-language debut. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
The film will take place in a day shelter where “homeless people congregate for food, warmth, and connection. When local officers decide to close the shelter, social workers have three months to reintegrate the women they care for — at any cost,” the film’s synopsis details.
The original French pic is based on Claire Lajeunie’s novel “Sur la route des invisibles: Femmes dans la rue.”
Labaki, who is among “The Invisibles'” producers, made history as the first Arab female filmmaker to receive an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film when “Capernaum” scored a nod in 2019. She made her feature directorial debut with 2007’s “Caramel” and followed it up with 2011’s “Where Do We Go Now?” Also an actress, Labaki appeared in all three of her features. Her other on-screen credits include “1982” and “Rock the Casbah.”
