Nahnatchka Khan and Reese Witherspoon Team Up on Happily Ever After

Disney has picked up Happily Ever After from Don’t Trust the B creator, Nahnatchka Khan. Reese Witherspoon is on board to star and produce the project through with her Pacific Standard partner, Bruna Papandrea. John Jacobs will also produce.

Khan’s pitch is an unusual take on the typical fairytale trope. Instead of following the prince and princess as they meet cute, fall in love, face some mild obstacles and live happily ever after — Khan’s take looks at the aftermath. She’ll take a look at the prince and princess about 10 years after they found their happy ending, showing that the pair has discovered despite their fairytale origins they still need to put effort into making a relationship and their lives work.

Smart Entertainment’s Zac Unterman and John Jacobs approached Khan with the idea and the three put together a pitch to take to Witherspoon. Disney’s Kristin Burr and Erin Westerman will oversee the project.

Witherspoon is in pre-production for an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s Wild. Khan is currently working on an animated Russell Brand project for Fox.
