“Fresh Off the Boat’s” Nahnatchka Khan, Ali Wong, and Randall Park are teaming up for a romantic comedy, Variety confirms. The ABC family comedy’s creator/showrunner, Khan, will direct Wong and Park — who write for and star on the series, respectively — in an as-yet untitled film about childhood sweethearts whose paths cross again in adulthood.
The Netflix project tells the story of Sasha (Wong) and Marcus (Park), who haven’t seen each other in 15 years. “They reconnect as adults when Sasha, now a celebrity chef opening a restaurant in San Francisco, runs into Marcus, a happily struggling musician still living at home working for his dad — and discover the old sparks are still there.”
Wong and Park wrote the script with Michael Golamco (“Please Stand By”). The former two are producing alongside Good Universe’s Erin Westerman and Nathan Kahane. Production is expected to kick off in May.
Khan previously created the Krysten Ritter-starring dark comedy “Don’t Trust the B — — in Apartment 23.” The series aired for two seasons on ABC. She’s written and directed episodes of “Don’t Trust the B” and “FOTB.” Khan is also exec producing the “Greatest American Hero” reboot starring “New Girl’s” Hannah Simone.
Now in its fourth season, “Fresh Off the Boat” airs Tuesdays on ABC.
