There are not a lot of women who direct at the studio level. I can count them on two hands. The loss of Nora Ephron took one big name off the list, so it is always important to note when a woman gets a studio directing deal.
Word came down yesterday that Sony signed Nancy Meyers to direct the still untitled script initially written by Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber (500 Days of Summer).
The film, which she did a rewrite of, is a romantic comedy (of course) which according to the Hollywood Reporter is about “American woman whose life gets turned upside down when she begins dating a younger Brit.”
Sounds like every 40 something (or 50 something?) actress will be beating down the door for this part. The film will have a UK cast aside from the female lead.
No word yet on when it will start lensing.
