Another award-winning movie star is set to topline a television series. Two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts is headed to Netflix for “Gypsy,” a new one-hour psychological thriller.
Watts will also serve as an executive producer on the series, where she’ll play Jean Holloway, a therapist who has serious issues with boundaries and engages in inappropriate behavior with her patients.
The first two installments of the ten-episode series will be helmed by “Fifty Shades of Grey” director Sam Taylor-Johnson. Lisa Rubin will write and EP. Rubin has a number of projects in the works, including adaptations of the novels “I Was Here” and “Food Whore,” for New Line and DreamWorks respectively. Liza Chasin (“The Theory of Everything”) will also EP.
“Gypsy” will premiere on the streaming platform in 2017.
Watts is likely to join Brie Larson (“Room”) in the hotly anticipated adaptation of Jeannette Walls’ bestselling memoir “The Glass Castle.” “The Ring” star will also appear in Gia Coppola’s indie drama “The Secret Life of the Lonely Doll” alongside Jessica Lange. You can currently catch her in theaters in the latest “Divergent” chapter, “Allegiant,” and the dramedy “Demolition.”
