Natalie Portman Takes Her Oscar Win Out for a Test Run

While Natalie Portman might have been off our radar screen since last February when she won the best actress Oscar and disappeared to have her baby, yesterday we learned through the Hollywood Reporter that she is wielding her Oscar clout in making Marvel very aware how pissed off she is that Patty Jenkins is no longer directing Thor 2.

The report indicates that Portman is not really interested in acting right now but since she is contractually obligated to Thor 2, she was very excited to work with Jenkins and be a part of helping her break the glass ceiling for women directing studio comic book action flicks.

There are no sources in the report, but to have something like this come out indicates that Jenkins’ departure was not as amicable as it seemed (which we never believed.) The studio initially liked her but then got nervous. They said she was “not moving decisevely enough” and had a “lack of clarity in her overall choices.”

Of course it is difficult to have full clarity of choices when a final script has not been approved by the studio, but I guess that’s beyond the point.

I’m glad that Portman made her feelings known. Women using their power to help other women. It’s a great use of the clout she gained with her Oscar win for Black Swan. A while she will always be an Oscar winner and have that clout, I will be happy to see her use that clout in the types of parts she will play and the movies she will produce.

Maybe this will inspire her to take one of those many scripts that I am sure came her way since her Oscar win.

I have a feeling this Patty Jenkins/Marvel story is far from over.
