“Russian Doll” fans have more to look forward to than Season 2 of the Emmy-winning Netflix dramedy. A new project is in the works from series co-creator and star Natasha Lyonne and writer and supervising producer Cirocco Dunlap. The pair are teaming up on “The Hospital,” an Amazon animated series. This marks the first project under Lyonne and Maya Rudolph’s first-look deal with Amazon via their Animal Pictures banner.

Written and exec produced by Dunlap, “The Hospital” is “described as being darkly comedic in tone and follows Sleech and Klak, two brilliant female alien doctors who specialize in rare sci-fi illnesses. When Sleech defies protocol, she contracts a disease from another dimension and our heroes must find a cure before the universe is destroyed,” the source hints.

“Cirocco is an incredibly gifted and hilarious talent and we can’t wait to share her irreverent and existential point of view: a sci-fi world so deep and so strange and so animated!” said Animal Pictures.

Dunlap received a WGA nomination for her writing on “Russian Doll,” Her other credits include “Miracle Workers,” “Man Seeking Woman” and “The Tick.”

“Russian Doll” has been renewed for a second season but a premiere date has yet to be announced. The first season of the critically acclaimed “Groundhog Day”-esque dramedy saw Lyonne playing Nadia, a New Yorker unable to survive her 36th birthday. After tragically dying at her party, the video game designer wakes up to re-live the party — and continue finding new ways to die.
