NBC Orders Tina Fey Sitcom, Two Other Female-Driven Comedies

Tina Fey is returning to the peacock fold after taking “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” to Netflix.

NBC has all but picked up an untitled series by Fey and Robert Carlock, as well as two other sitcoms featuring complicated, intelligent female protagonists.

“SNL” and “30 Rock” collaborators Fey and Carlock have based their latest project on “The Mindy Project” writer Tracey Wigfield, who penned the new show’s pilot. At the heart of the trio’s sitcom is a mother-daughter relationship that becomes strained when “an overly involved New Jersey mom gets an internship at her daughter’s workplace, a cable news network,” according to THR. Wigfield won an Emmy with Fey for writing the “30 Rock” series finale.

Meanwhile, “Parks and Recreation” creator Mike Schur has received a 13-episode straight-to-series order for “A Good Place” (working title), a half-hour series about a woman who struggles with what it means to be good. The show will boast a “strong and very complicated lead female character.”

Hailing from NBC Playground, the network’s crowd-sourced comedy programming initiative, will be Kassia Miller’s “Imaginary Friend,” about a smart but stunted woman who deals with the mediocrity in her life in a, shall we say, special way. Miller is a writer and actress based in NYC.
