Netflix Orders Female-Led Heroin Drama “Hache”

Adriana Ugarte (seen here in "Julieta") will star

Netflix has another Spanish-language original series on the way, Variety confirms. Created and written by Verónica Fernández, “Hache” is drug thriller based on real events and takes place in 1960s Barcelona. The streamer ordered eight hour-long episodes.

“Hache” is set in the world of heroine trafficking. Adriana Ugarte (“Julieta”) stars as Helena, a woman at the heart of the bustling enterprise.

The series is slated for release in 2019 and will be available to stream in 190 territories.

Fernández most recently wrote for “Velvet Collection,” another Barcelona-set series, this one about a woman who works in fashion and aspires to launch a global franchise. The comedy streams on Movistar+, a Spanish subscription platform, and is also available on Netflix. Fernández, alongside Achero Mañas,  won a Spanish Academy Goya Award for penning the 2001 feature “El Bola.”

Netflix’s other Spanish-language original series include “Cable Girls” and “Paquita Salas.”
