“Never Have I Ever” Renewed for Season 3 at Netflix

"Never Have I Ever"

It’s taken just over a month for Netflix to confirm that “Never Have I Ever” is returning for a third season, no doubt reassuring those eagerly awaiting news of the beloved show’s fate. The comedy, created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, was the most popular series on the streaming platform upon its debut in 2020, and its return earlier this year attracted the attentions of famous fans such as Megan thee Stallion, who was also name-checked in the series.

A semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story inspired by Kaling’s own adolescence, the show continued to earn strong reviews on its second outing. Meanwhile, lead star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan — who was a newcomer when the show debuted — has since signed on to “The Netherfield Girls,” a contemporary take on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” from director Becca Gleason.

Season 2 of “Never Have I Ever” saw teenage protagonist Devi (Ramakrishnan) torn between the affections of Paxton (Darren Barnet) and Ben (Jaren Lewison), wrestling with grief surrounding her father’s death, and making bad decisions following the arrival of new student Aneesa (Megan Suri). Meanwhile, her mother, Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan), considered dating again.

The season ended with Devi finally choosing between her suitors — though whether Season 3 will rekindle a love triangle, or take time to further explore Devi’s romantic relationship remains to be seen.
