After co-starring in Netflix’s “Wet Hot American Summer,” Amy Poehler and Elizabeth Banks will each angle for their brainchildren to debut during this upcoming TV season.
Following seven seasons of “Parks and Recreation,” Poehler hopes to return to NBC with “Dumb Prince,” which has received a pilot production commitment from the network.” Poehler will executive produce the comedy with Charlie Grandy (“The Mindy Project”) and Brooke Posch, about a “a reluctant Crown Prince’s attempt to run the family business his way, throwing his highly publicized and dysfunctional family into chaos,” according to Variety.
Poehler will also star with Tina Fey in “Sisters,” out Christmas Day.
As for Elizabeth Banks, she’s parlaying the success of “Pitch Perfect 2” into directing and producing might. While courting two helming gigs (for the “Charlie’s Angels” reboot and the YA dystopian fantasy “Red Queen”), Banks has received her own pilot production commitment from Fox for “Front Man.”
To be EP’d by Banks, her husband Max Handelman and “Suburgatory” and “Selfie” creator Emily Kapneck, “Front Man” will center on “Paul, an overindulged only child who is born to two doting helicopter parents. As he approaches 30, Paul is forced to acknowledge that his dream of becoming a famous singer and songwriter isn’t happening. When he’s wrenched from the comfort of his family home, he must try to stand on his own so he takes the gig of front man for a local wedding band — where he learns about much more than wedding reception staples,” according to Variety.
Banks is set to direct the pilot, if her schedule permits.
