Nicole Byer’s first hourlong comedy special is on the way. Variety reports the “Nailed It!” host’s currently-untitled special will be filmed at New York’s Gramercy Theatre September 5, and will air on Netflix later this year.
“I’m so fucking excited to do this,” Byer said in a statement. “I’m so grateful that Netflix is giving me a nice lil platform to have some fun tee hee hee.”
“Nailed It!,” an unscripted baking competition show, returns to Netflix for its sixth season September 15. Byer also collaborated with Netflix for the half-hour stand-up series “Comedians of the World.”
“Byer made history last year when she received her first Emmy nomination in the reality host category [for ‘Nailed It!’]; she was the first Black woman to ever make that ballot,” Variety notes. “This year she received her second consecutive nomination in the category and is still the only Black woman to be recognized there.”
Byer’s many credits include “Tuca & Bertie,” “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” and “The Good Place.” Her MTV comedy, “*Loosely Exactly Nicole,” ran for two seasons, from 2016-2018. Byer also hosts podcasts such as “Why Won’t You Date Me?” and “Best Friends!,” co-hosts “Wipeout,” and is the author of the memoir “#VERYFAT #VERYBRAVE: The Fat Girl’s Guide to Being #Brave and Not a Dejected, Melancholy, Down-in-the-Dumps Weeping Fat Girl in a Bikini.”
