Since 1977, Women in Film, Los Angeles has recognized outstanding women in the entertainment industry through the Crystal + Lucy Awards. The organization mounts educational and philanthropic programs and advocates for gender parity for women throughout the industry.
Kidman will receive the Crystal Award for Excellence in Film, reserved for those who have helped expand the role of women within the entertainment industry. Soloway will collect its TV counterpart, the Lucy Award, named after Lucille Ball. The Dorothy Arzner Award, in recognition of the first female member of the DGA, will be given to DuVernay. The Max Mara “Face of the Future” Award will go to Kate Mara. Rounding out the honoree list are Kroll, who will be recognized for her commitment to mentoring and supporting the next generation of filmmakers and executives, and talent agent Howard, who will receive the inaugural Sue Mengers Award for her work in guiding careers.
WIF President Cathy Schulman said in a statement, “We are proud to celebrate an extraordinary line-up of honorees this year. Each one of these women has made extraordinary contributions to the media art, and as a group they have forged sustainable careers that are emblematic of the positive and long overdue change that is taking root for women in Hollywood.”
