Nicole Kidman Signs First-Look Deal with Amazon Studios

Kidman in "Secret in Their Eyes"

Nicole Kidman has inked a first-look deal with Amazon Studios, Deadline confirms. The pact sees the Oscar winner’s Blossom Films developing original series that will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, as well as movies for theatrical release.

At last year’s Emmy Awards Kidman took home two trophies her work on “Big Little Lies.” She both stars in and exec produces the HBO murder mystery, which is currently filming its second season with Andrea Arnold (“American Honey”) directing.

Kidman founded Blossom Films alongside Per Saari. Besides “Big Little Lies,” the company’s best known credit is the Oscar-nominated 2010 drama “Rabbit Hole,” which Kidman also starred in.

“Nicole is a force of nature as both an actress and a producer,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “She understands the focus of bringing addictive, entertaining and compelling television to our Prime Video customers as well as movies that will connect with film audiences. Stay tuned for many exciting projects to come in the very near future!”

“I think we’re a little bit missing on addictive female (dramas),” Salke recently acknowledged. She said the streamer is looking for their “Big Little Lies” or “The Handmaid’s Tale” — ” shows that can culturally break through but feel original and are very addictive.”

Next up for Blossom is “The Undoing,” an HBO limited series slated to go into production in 2019. Kidman stars as a successful therapist whose live is upended just before the publication of her first book.

Blossom is also set to adapt another novel by “Big Little Lies” author Liane Moriarty, “Truly Madly Guilty.” Set over the course of a weekend, the story grapples with marriage, sex, parenthood, and friendship. Reese Witherspoon’s Pacific Standard is also on board for the limited series.

“I’m excited to start working with Jen Salke and the Amazon team.” said Kidman. “Our goal at Blossom Films is to create important and entertaining content across multiple platforms, and I can’t think of better collaborators with which to accomplish this.”

Kidman’s upcoming acting gigs include Karyn Kusama’s “Destroyer,” a crime drama about a detective, and Rebecca Miller’s “She Came to Me,” a comedic drama set in the world of modern art. The “Lion” star has pledged to work with a woman director every 18 months.
