Norway’s submission to the Best International Film category at the 2021 Academy Awards is being adapted into an Amazon series thanks to a Hollywood heavyweight. Nicole Kidman is bringing Maria Sødahl’s blended-family drama to the streamer via her Blossom Films Banner. The Oscar and Emmy winner will star in and exec produce the project. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.
The series is “expected to chronicle twelve days of a family’s Christmas together, including the unravelling of a marriage, with six children between them,” according to the source.
The film version of “Hope” received best director and best actress nominations at the 2020 European Academy Awards.
Kidman was last seen in HBO murder mystery “The Undoing” and Netflix musical “The Prom.” She won an Oscar for her leading role in “The Hours” and received nods for “Lion,” “Rabbit Hole,” and “Moulin Rouge!”
“The Expatriates” and “Pretty Things” are among the many projects on Kidman’s upcoming slate. Both are being developed at Amazon Studios, where Blossom Films has a first-look deal. “The Expatriates” centers on a close-knit expatriate community in Hong Kong, while “Pretty Things” tells the story of a grifter and a wealthy influencer who strike up a friendship. Kidman is collaborating with “The Farewell” writer-director Lulu Wang on the former and Emmy-winning “Handmaid’s Tale” director Reed Morano on the latter.
