No Women Directors Included in First Seven Films in 2013 Berlin International Film Festival

nullThe 63rd annual Berlin International Film Festival has just announced the first six films in their competition line up.  Thus far, it’s not looking good for women. Of the 7 films announced today (one is a special screening), none are directed by women.

Last year’s festival honored Meryl Streep with the Golden Bear award, but only 20% of the films in the Panorama section were directed by women. Let’s hope that this initial announcement is not indicative of the rest of the festival (which Women and Hollywood will be covering this year on the ground for the first time.)  You can find the list of films linked below. The rest of the films will be announced early next year.

The Berlin International Film Festival runs from February 7-17.
