Jenny Slate is set to reunite with the team behind “Obvious Child,” writer/director Gillian Robespierre and producer/writer Elisabeth Holm. Slate will star in an untitled FX comedy pilot directed by Robespierre and written by both Robespierre and Holm.
Variety reports that the show is “described as “like ‘Thelma and Louise’ — but nobody dies’” and it “will explore the adult female relationship dynamic when two born-and-raised New Yorkers embark on a cross-country road trip.” Ari Graynor (“Bad Teacher”) will play the co-lead/ Slate’s friend.
Women and Hollywood enthusiastically embraced Robespierre’s directorial debut, citing it as one of the best woman-directed films of 2014. We wrote that the hilarious and charming comedy “revived and updated the rom com for the 21st century.” Slate was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her role in the movie.
Production for the series begins today in New York. Robespierre and Holm are serving as executive producers.
