Octavia Spencer, Patty Jenkins, Priyanka Chopra, & More to Be Honored at Variety’s Power of Women

Spencer in “Hidden Figures”

Some of the most philanthropic and inspiring women in Hollywood will be celebrated at an upcoming event. A press release has announced Variety’s honorees for their Power of Women luncheon in LA. “Hidden Figures” actress Octavia Spencer, “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins, and “Quantico” star Prinyanka Chopra are among the women being recognized for their work off-screen.

Spencer is being feted for her efforts with City Year, an org dedicated to improving education in high-poverty communities, Jenkins for her work with Anti-Recidivism Coalition, a support network for formerly incarcerated young men and women, and Chopra for her role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson and “mother!” star Michelle Pfeiffer are also among the honorees, the former thanks to her work with XQ Super School, a movement aiming towards transforming high school educations, and the latter for Environmental Working Group, an environmental org dedicated to empowering people to live healthier lives.

The event, held in partnership with Lifetime Television, will take place on October 13. Spencer, Jenkins, Chopra, Clarkson, and Pfeiffer will also be featured on the front cover of Variety’s Power of Women issue on October 10.

“We are once again honored to partner with Lifetime to present our Power of Women event,” stated Michelle Sobrino-Stearns, Group Publisher and Chief Revenue Officer of Variety. “At the heart of this event is a desire to promote the importance of philanthropy within the entertainment community. This year’s honorees are passionate and inspiring women working to help shine a light on causes important to them. We hope it inspires others to do the same.”

Last year’s honorees included Helen Mirren, Ava DuVernay, and Laverne Cox.
