The Queen is heading to Palm Springs. A press release announced that Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will be honoring Olivia Colman with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress for “The Favourite” at its annual Film Awards Gala. The award will be presented by her co-star in the dark comedy, Emma Stone.
Previous winners include Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, and Halle Berry.
Set in 18th century England, “The Favourite” sees Stone and Rachel Weisz vying for the Queen’s (Colman) affections — and the power that comes along with it.
“In ‘The Favourite’ Olivia Colman steals the show as a frail and aloof Queen Anne, whose attention is being sought by two scheming cousins” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “For this superb performance, that has received much critical acclaim and awards recognition, it is our honor to present the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress to Olivia Colman.”
Considered a favorite in the Oscar race, Colman is already racking up honors for her performance, including a Golden Globe nomination.
Colman’s recent credits include “The Night Manager” and “Broadchurch.” She’ll play Queen Elizabeth II in “The Crown’s” upcoming third season.
“The Wife’s” Glenn Close and “If Beale Street Could Talk’s” Regina King are among those being honored at the PSIFF’s 30th edition, which is set to run from January 3-14.
