‘Orange is the New Black’ Actress Uzo Aduba to Star in Drama About the Aftereffects of ‘Roots’

Emmy-winning actress Uzo Aduba, best known as Suzanne/”Crazy Eyes” on Orange is the New Black, will star with Maggie Grace in a drama called Showing Roots that explores the socio-cultural aftershocks of the iconic miniseries in a small Southern town.

Aduba and Grace will play regulars at a local beauty parlor who seek to foster integration, but find that Roots opens up more wounds in the already racially divided town. The script is written by first-timer Susan Batten, an acting veteran of One Life to Live. Shooting will begin this month in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“I find that the subject matter has only gotten more relevant in this country,” commented producer Michael Mailer, who has worked with Batten on this “passion project” for years. “It’s a movie that deals with racial healing.”
