Victoria Alonso is set to receive the Visionary Award at the 2021 Outfest Legacy Awards. Marvel Studios’ president of physical and post production, visual effects, and animation production “will be recognized for her contributions to LGBTQ representation and media visibility,” per Variety.
“Black Panther,” “Black Widow,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” “WandaVision,” and “Loki” are among the projects Alonso has served as an executive producer on. Her latest offering, Chloé Zhao’s “Eternals,” features Marvel Studios’ first LGBTQ superhero on the big screen, Phastos, played by Brian Tyree Henry.
“Our entire success is based on people that are incredibly different. Why wouldn’t we [portray a gay superhero]? Why would we only want to be recognized by only one type of person? Our audience is global, is diverse, is inclusive. If we don’t do it that way for them, we will fail. If we don’t put pedal to the metal on the diversity and the inclusivity, we will not have continued success. Our determination is to have that for all of the people out there watching our movies,” Alonso said.
Prior to joining Marvel in 2006, Alonso worked in visual effects on projects such as “Shrek” and “Big Fish.”
The Legacy Awards will be be held November 13 in L.A.
